Piano, Keyboard, Voice, Song-writing and Music Theory Tuition.

Lessons

Teaching Style

Whether its piano or vocal lessons you’re taking, my priority is to provide inspiring tuition to develop your enjoyment and appreciation of music.

As a highly qualified and experienced teacher I take pride in providing lessons which are carefully, logically structured. Each lesson includes full feedback on progress and advice on the exercises and aural skills, as well as the musical repertoire, appropriate to the standard. Suggestions for further listening and reading are offered within the scope of the tuition. Taking into account your lifestyle and demands on your time I also make clear recommendations regarding the content and length of your practice time and I’ll help you come up with a schedule that works for you.

Exams

For those students who wish to do so, you can be entered for ABRSM graded exams. I’ll do all the administration for you free of charge. In 15 years of teaching, my students have a 100% pass rate from grades 1-8 and diplomas, including music theory papers and jazz exams.

Age

I have successfully taught music to young students from age 5, up to the 70 somethings and beyond. For the under 5s a more holistic approach is needed. Contact me for details.

End of term reports are provided for young students, so parents can follow progress closely. Any issues or problems would of course be raised as they occur.

Ability

People of all abilities are welcomed from the raw beginner to the post Grade 8 experienced musician wishing to hone their skills still further.

Location

I teach in an easily accessible area of York where there is plenty of free on-street parking.

Times

Weekly lessons are recommended for the student who wishes to progress quickly. Lessons may be provided on a more ad hoc basis where appropriate. Please contact me for details. To find out what weekly slots I have available, please contact me. Evenings and weekends can be busy but I do try to accommodate people’s time preferences where possible. If the slot you want is not currently available you can register on my waiting list.

Fees

The cost of a 30 minute lesson is £13.00 for pianists / keyboard players / music theory students and £16.00 for vocalists. You are free to call or email between lessons with any questions regarding your practice. This advice is given free of charge. You are required to pay for your own books for use in the lessons. Full advice on which books are most suitable will be provided and if you are very busy I can go and buy them for you.
